Beach Time

This weekend we took the children to the beach to see some friends and get a little sunshine.
We set up a nice little area on the bayou for the babies to play. The hermit crabs and shovels in the sand were highlights. We took them to the condo pool to wade in the water.
We also went to the zoo to see the monkeys, turtles, and birds.
We had a great weekend. It was fun to watch the children enjoy these fun activities. The discovery and joy are such a fun part of this age.

Snap Crackle

When the day starts to get difficult or the weather starts to get rainy, I pull out the bowls and measuring cups. Rice Krispy Treats were a big hit this week--both in preparation and consumption.
Getting in to the kitchen is a lot of fun and allows us to talk about numbers and (my limited understanding of) chemistry. We also get to practice taking turns and licking our fingers.

Homemade Haircuts

One of the trials of being a multiple is enduring the shortcuts parents take to try to save money. H and I have decided to teach ourselves to cut the children's hair.
The other night we had our first go at it. It didn't go so well, but all of us did survive.
H and I plan to keep working on our skills in hopes of being able to give decent haircuts--and free haircuts.
Heres hoping for less tears and better dos next time.

Mi Casa es Casa Nueva

Our big change is that we have traded houses: from a one bedroom, one bath house to a three bedroom, two bath house; from a 900 square foot house to a 2500 square foot house; from a house 25 feet from a five acre pond to a house 150 yards from that pond.
When we moved to H's hometown five years ago, H oversaw the building of our quaint little Fish House. We loved living here; the space was perfect for the two of us. And really, it was great for the five of us. But when we were presented with the option of trading houses and moving into the house H grew up in, we thought it might be a good switch.
So yesterday, we had about 25 people and four pick-up trucks with trailers choreographed to swap the furniture of our house with the furniture of H's parents' house. We provided snacks, drinks, lunch, and a raffle prize.
We greatly appreciate those who offered their time, brain, sweat, cooking, and kindness. Thank you for helping us with our transition.
We hope you will be able to come visit us in our new home very soon.

In Preparation

The babes have enjoyed watching the construction and remodeling going on around our house. All this commotion is part of an exciting change coming soon.
Elliott still asks for the 'ment truck.

Elliott's Current Obsession

Elliott is currently obsessed with tractors. He will spend long periods of time going through the tractor trader magazine his Papa Glenn brought him. He loves for us to read him the different ads: "2003 John Deere. 840 hours. 64 horsepower. 90% tires. 6500c3." He loves to look for tractors when we are driving and he often makes his tractor sound flapping in the back of his cheek. We hope all this means he will be wanting to cut the grass when he is old enough.

Flying Squirrels

Our friend Michelle is getting her doctorate in biology, studying the communication of flying squirrels. Today she brought over some of her little friends for the babes to see. They were not afraid in the least and, truth be told, probably were a bit too bold with the little creatures.

Thanks Michelle for letting us play with your squirrels.

Fun with Nana

This afternoon, our Nana came down to play with us. She set us up with buckets of water and paint brushes. We got to paint the fence. She said we were very good at it. Thanks Nana.

Trip to Georgia

This week Lucia and I went to Georgia to see my Grandma. She has been in the hospital and I really wanted to see her and give her a hug. Elliott had just had a fun day with his buddy Seth, so I knew I wanted to take one of the girls. I decided to take Lucia this time and will take Mazie next. We were able to visit with Grandma twice as we went to and from Atlanta. She is doing better and should be home soon.
While in Atlanta, Lucia and I went to the aquarium together. We had a great time, but a short time. We sprinted through the home of the fish and whales and turtles. We were away from our car for an hour. Suddenly I see why annual passes make financial sense.
I loved my time with my Lu. While I knew she would really enjoy the attention and saturated time, I didn't realize what a luxury it would be to me. I loved being able to shower her with love and attention. H and I need to make one on one time a regular part of our routines. It is so good for our children and us.
I also took Lu to some of my favorite places in Atlanta, namely the grocery stores. We went to Whole Foods and the Farmer's Market in DeKalb. They were fun outings for my girl and for me.

Thank you SRS for letting us stay with you. We love our time with y'all.

Happy Birthday Nana

Happy Birthday to our Nana. H's mom celebrated another birthday today. We celebrated with coffee and a lemon yogurt cake (from Ina Garten's At Home, very good). I forgot to take photos of the occasion so, Nana, here are your three angels wishing you a wonderful year. They are so lucky to have you for a grandparent.
