We are fortunate that H's parents have a house at the gulf across the street from a wonderful little bayou (that's pronounced by-o where we live, as in "way down yonder of the bayou, there lives a little girl-o.") We spent a lot of our beach time on the bayou as it was a safe and beautiful place to play. The babes could roam and dig and splash, and we could sit and float and watch.
